The first settlers of Statesville were Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1753. The immigrants named their new settlement Fourth Creek Congregation. As the settlement grew, the North Carolina Legislature divided Rowan County, the county Fourth Creek was located in, into two separate counties and chose Fourth Creek Congregation to serve as the county seat. In 1833, the settlement’s leaders began laying railroad track to connect more easily to the surrounding area. Since then, Statesville has continued to experience growth and prosperity.
The City of Statesville is home to several attractions and points of interest. Located on South Center Street is regionally famous Images at the Crossroads, a two-story tall fresco crafted by Ben Long, world-renowned artist and Statesville native.
