Statesville is a city located in Iredell County, North Carolina. According to the Unites States Census Bureau, the city had a population of about 24,000 people in 2010. Statesville currently serves as the county seat of Iredell County.

The first settlers of Statesville were Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1753. The immigrants named their new settlement Fourth Creek Congregation. As the settlement grew, the North Carolina Legislature divided Rowan County, the county Fourth Creek was located in, into two separate counties and chose Fourth Creek Congregation to serve as the county seat. In 1833, the settlement’s leaders began laying railroad track to connect more easily to the surrounding area. Since then, Statesville has continued to experience growth and prosperity.

The City of Statesville is home to several attractions and points of interest. Located on South Center Street is regionally famous Images at the Crossroads, a two-story tall fresco crafted by Ben Long, world-renowned artist and Statesville native. Also, located in the city are Albert B. McClure Park and Alex Cooper Park. These beautiful city parks feature walking and jogging trails, lighted ball fields, picnic shelters, playground equipment and more. The Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center is also situated in the City of Statesville. This nature and learning center is nestled within 1,000 acres of beautiful North Carolina land and strives to promote education through the use of land and water as an outdoor classroom.
